$85 million grant round opens to help Australians with disability
Australians living with a disability are set to benefit from new funding to increase community participation, after the opening of a new grant round which will offer up to $85 million to organisations across the country.
Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Stuart Robert, has announced that applications are now open for the grant round under the National Disability Insurance Agency’s (NDIA) Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.
The grant round will focus on improving access to organisations run by and for people with disability, their carers and families, as well as supporting organisations that seek to improve the outcomes for specific communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.
Previous grants have led to the development of employment programs, information resources, buddy programs, and workshops.
Minister Robert says, “This new grant round focuses on Individual Capacity Building to enable people with disability, as well as their carers and families, to build their skills through access to peer support and mentoring.”
Chief Executive Officer of People With Disability Australia, Jeff Smith says that funding provided in ILC grants is an “essential part of the national disability support system.”
The Individual Capacity Building Program aims to ensure people with disability have the skills and confidence to participate and contribute to the community and protect their rights through an increase in:

Skills and capacity.

Motivation, confidence and empowerment to act.

Participation and contribution in the community.
The ILC program also helps Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPOs) and Families Organisations (FOs) in their capability to deliver services by improving the organisation’s capacity and ability to deliver the organisation’s mission and information.
This grant round is the last one in the current Individual Capacity Building Program under the ILC.
Applications are open to all Disabled Peoples Organisations and Families Organisations and will close on April 22. Successful recipients are expected to be announced in July 2020.
