Australians with disability within the Bayside Peninsula in Victoria, and those aged between 18-64 years living in the Adelaide Hills, Western Adelaide and Eastern Adelaide in South Australia are the latest groups to gain access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as the rollout of the service continues.
Eligible residents in the new rollout areas will join the more than 140,000 Australians already participating in the NDIS, with National Assistant Minister for Disability Services, Jane Prentice saying she is pleased to announce the continued rollout across both South Australia and Victoria.
Ms Prentice adds that the rollout in these areas is an “important milestone” for people with disability, their families, carers and the broader communities.
“The NDIS is one of the largest social policy reforms in Australia’s history and is already empowering more than 15,000 South Australians… [and] more than 25,000 Victorians with disability,” she says.
The Assistant Minister continues, saying the NDIS rollout in these areas will not only support people in the regions with disability, but will also create jobs – 650 jobs for Bayside Peninsula and 800 jobs in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, Western Adelaide and Eastern Adelaide regions.
“Over the coming years, an additional $140 million will be injected to the local economy as a result of the NDIS rolling out in the Adelaide Hills, Western Adelaide and Eastern Adelaide… [and] an additional $230 million will be injected into the local economy… in Bayside Peninsula.”
Once fully implemented in 2019, the NDIS is expected to support around 105,300 people with disability in Victoria, and 32,300 in South Australia.
