Purple spotlight to shine on global landmarks this International Day of People with Disability
Iconic buildings around the world will glow purple on 3 December to celebrate and put a spotlight on the economic contribution of the millions of employees with disability around the world.
The 24-hour Global Broadcast will bring together CEOs, senior champions, network/employee research group leaders and employees with disability to connect, share their stories and feel the power of change.
The event, which marks the UN International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), kicks off in Australia and will cover six continents before ending at sunset in New York.
Lead by PurpleSpace, #PurpleLightUp has been driving momentum for disability inclusion across hundreds of organisations since 2017, celebrating the 368 million employees with disability world-wide.
The initiative will spend between 3 – 5 hours in every continent (apart from Antarctica), showcasing the amazing strides that organisations, associations and individuals around the world are making in terms of disability inclusion and in building disability confidence from the inside out.
The ‘purple spotlight’ will be turned on Oceania between 9am and 12pm. Australian Network on Disability will be hosting interviews, panel discussions, videos, and celebrations. Also on the Oceania program are:
-
KPMG Law, the National Disability Insurance Agency and The Deaf Society / Deaf Services Limited take part in a thought provoking discussion about applying personal leadership to achieve change, with their personal leadership experiences and strategies to engage and equip others.
-
HSBC’s Group Chief Financial Officer and Executive sponsor of the bank’s Global Disability Confidence Project, Ewen Stevenson talks about how global organisations can achieve inclusion for people with disability.
This broadcast provides an extraordinary opportunity for people with disability and allies from across the world – who would, in traditional circumstances, rarely meet – to connect with each other and celebrate #PurpleLightUp.
You can register to attend the virtual event for free under ‘Oceania’ here. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with each other, and some of the speakers, via messages, polls and Q&As.
Once you have registered, you will receive joining details allowing you to access the Broadcast on the day as well as watch any sessions on demand, after the 3 December.
