Victorian venues open doors to inclusion

Accessibility Weekend runs from 8-9th September and is now in its fourteenth year.

The dates demonstrate the importance of access and inclusion for people living with physical disability, coinciding with Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week on 3rd-9th September.

Chief Executive Officer of Independence Australia Peter Turner says Accessibility Weekend aligns with the organisation’s purpose in supporting people with disability in regaining and retaining their independence.

“Accessibility Weekend is a invaluable opportunity for Victorians living with a disability, their families and carers to enjoy the inclusive access each participating venue has to offer.”

The metropolitan venues opening their doors include ArtVo, Belgravia Leisure (multiple venues), Boroondara Leisure (YMCA), Eureka Skydeck, Gumbuya World, IMAX Melbourne, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, Living Legends, Old Treasury Building, SEA LIFE Melbourne as well as YMCA City of Casey and City of Dandenong.

The participating regional venues include Arthurs Seat Eagle, Australian National Surfing Museum, Ballarat Wildlife Park, Belgravia Leisure, Bendigo Tramways, Central Deborah Gold Mine, Churchill Island Heritage, Gold Museum, Koala Conservation Centre, Moonlit Sanctuary, Murray River Paddlesteamers, The Nobbies, Penguin Parade and Sovereign Hill.

One lucky Accessibility Weekend guest and their carer will win the chance to enjoy an accessible ride in Global Ballooning Australia’s Easy access Basket across the Yarra Valley, as part of the event.
